I found a dream...that I could speak to...

I'm a sap, I admit it. Not the biggest Beyonce fan, but I thought she did good here. And how great it is to see their undiluted happiness? Won't last long as the pressures of one of the toughest jobs on the planet makes itself manifest. But I gotta say as a selfish citizen, I feel a lot better with Barack Obama at the helm than anyone else at the moment.

The other landmark for me:

Oh man. The thing that kills me about this is that Seeger mostly doesn't *sing* the song--he's more busy listening to everyone else singing it, and feeding the audience the lines. So great.

In the squares of the city
By the shadow of the steeple
by the relief office
I saw my people
as they stood there hungry
I stood there whistling:
"This land is made for you and me."

Well I do like me some Beyonce once in a while. And I don't know if you have seen her Single Lady video but your mom and Anne and I are going to dress like that and make our own video to that song....I am not too sure your mom knows about it though!! And how come At Last was played at ALL of the balls?? Love the song but it was getting a little old after a while....at least for as long as I was watching anyway. I did not really like Mrs. Obama's dress...it was a bit too long and I thought it didn't suit her as well as some others she has worn. So there!!!

Seeger has fed the audience the lines for decades. He turns 90 in a few months-- singing and feeding the audience takes more wind than he has at this point (he officially retired a few years back). Tao was keeping more of an eye on his grandfather than he used to when they toured with Arlo. Fabulous to see Pete Seeger able to be included in this. He belonged there.

Totally agree Annika. Read a great article recently about Seeger being forced to testify against others during the McCarthy hearings. At least, they tried to. He brought his banjo to the hearings and tried to sing a song--when they wouldn't permit that they recited the lyrics instead. "Wasn't That a Time" I think was the song. They sentenced him to 10 years for not testifying but he got off somehow in the end.

Amazing, awesome guy.
